Comparison of Type, Prevalence, Causes and Mechanisms of Common Injuries on (Young, Middle-aged and Elderly) Male Users of Heeger and Nirvana Outdoor Fitness Equipment

Abstract

Background and Aim:The aims of this study are to compare type, prevalence, causes and mechanisms of common injuries on young, middle-aged and elderly male users of outdoor fitness equipment of two brands of Heeger and Nirvana.

Materials and Methods: Among 35 existing outdoor fitness equipment trademarks in Iran, Heeger and Nirvana were chosen for this study due to their wide-spread distribution throughout parks of Tehran.
Following by a random selection of one park per region/zone a total of 100 male users (n=50 per brand) participated the survey. Each individual completed two questionnaires of personal-general information and injury identification test. Based on Kolmogorov-Smirnov test the normality of data was examined. Afterwards the descriptive statistics followed by inferential statistics including Chi-Square test with 0/05 significance was prepared for out-group comparison.
Results: indicated that 49% of pepole who used this equipments was injured and lower body with 63.3% had The highest proportion of injuries. Joint injury(33%), strain(30%) and sprain(12%) the highest type of injury, Knee( 37.5%) and waist(22.92%) The most common injury, Tension (33%) the most common cause of injury and applying force against the direction of the muscle force was the most common mechanism of injury by 33%. Also there is no significant difference among injuries between two brands.
Conclusion: The findings of this study can be concluded that Joint injury was the most common type of injury, Knee was most susceptible to injury, Therefore, for planning training program and prevention of injuries users should considerate these points.
