Abstract

Back ground and aim: Limited range of motion in dorsi flexion of ankle can changes lower limb biomechanics, ankle, and postural stability. The aim of this study was to investigate effect of 6 week stretching training of Gastrocnemius-Soleus complex on dorsiflexion range of motion, ankle proprioception, knee valgus and functions in athletes with limited dorsiflexion.
Material and method: in this semi-experimental study 30athletes with ankle dorsi flexion limitation were selected  and divided into two groups of control and intervention (15 in controls and 15 in experimental groups). The degree of dorsiflexion range of motion and ankle proprioception were assessed  by universal goniometer, knee valgus by the camera in landing, and function were evaluated  by Single-leg hop test, Single Leg Cross Hop Test, and Latin-8 test. The intervention group performed Gastrocnemius-Soleus stretching for six weeks.
Results: The results of covariance revealed a significant difference in the dorsiflexion range of motion and function between the two groups in pre and posttest after exercise, but there was no significant difference between knee valgus and ankle proprioception variables.
Conclusion: Adding Gastrocnemius-Soleus stretching to rehabilitation programs for athletes with ankle motion limitation is recommended to reduce consequences such as dorsiflexion range of motion and motor function limitation.
