Abstract

Introduction. Spinal cord injury is the most important and permanent problem following trauma that can lead to several problem. Constipation and abdominal pain are some of these problem that affect negatively on patients life. The aim of this study was to perform 12 weeks Rebound Therapy exercise on constipation and abdominal pain in Spinal Cord Injury patients.

Method. 16 members of Isfahan spinal cord injury association were participated in this semi-experimental study by convenience sampling manner. Participant allocated into 2 groups of control (8 cases) and rebound (8 cases) by randomized matched method. Consent forms signed after a session of briefing. Constipation (by CAS questionnaire) and pain (by VAS questionnaire) before and after 12 weeks of rebound therapy exercise (three sessions each week, session 10 to 30 minutes) were measured. Data were analyzed by repeated measure ANOVA in SPSS software. Significance level considered P < 0.05.

Results. Both measured variables showed significant interaction (P < 0.05). It means rebound therapy exercise training have positive effect on constipation and abdominal pain of patients.

Conclusion. These results suggest that rebound therapy could be used as a non-invasive, low cost, and complementary intervention for spinal cord injury patients
