Abstract

Background and aim: The ankle joint injuries with incidence 10-35% are among the most common injuries that occur during sports activities. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of taping on the activity of ankle plantar flexor muscles in different foot position during drop landing with and without fatigue.

Material and methods: Fourteen female college athletes participated in this study. The gastrocnemius and peroneus longus muscles activity in different foot position during drop landing before and after muscles fatigue was recorded with surface electromyography. Repeated measures ANOVA was used for statistical analysis (p≤0.05).

Results: The results showed that the time had significant effects on gastrocnemius and peroneus longus muscle activity (p=0.000). Tape condition had no effect on muscle activity under different landing positions (p˃0.05).

Conclusion: According to the results of this study, Kensiotape can help to increase muscles activity when they were fatigue, while it does not seem the using of Kinesiotape with this purpose that it can increase the muscles activity to prevent occurring ankle sprain injuries has any benefit.
