The effects of modified Pilates training on quality of life and clinical symptoms in female asthmatic patients.

Background and aim: Asthma is one of the most common disorders of the respiratory system. sport exercises are main part of pulmonary rehabilitation program. This study was designed to study the effects of Pilates training on female asthmatic patients.
Material and Methods: In this semi experimental research 26 female asthmatic patients (age 31/3±3/6year, height 162/5±5/2cm, weight 65/4±8/6 kg), were selected Purposefully and availability and then randomly were divided into experimental (n=13) and control groups (n=13). experimental group performed modified Pilates training for 8 weeks, consisting of three sessions of 60 minutes per week. Quality of life was measured by Asthma quality of life questionnaire (AQLQ) and clinical symptoms was measured by clinical symptom questionnaire. Criteria measures were assessed pre and post exercise program. Data were analyzed by repeated measure ANOVA with α=0.05.
Results: results showed The positive effects of Pilates training on quality of life (p=0/02) and clinical symptoms (P= 0/00) in patients with asthma.
conclusion: the results indicate that The Pilates training can used as a useful complementary method in the process of rehabilitation of asthmatic patients.
