The effect of “FIFA +11 kids” injury prevention program on isokinetic strength of the knee extensor and flexor muscles in young children football players

Abstract

Background and aim: Recently, FIFA developed injury prevention programme for children’s football named “FIFA 11+ Kids”. So far, the effectiveness of this injury prevention programme in developing isokinetic strength in kid’s soccer players has not been investigated. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of the FIFA 11+ Kids programs on isokinetic strength of the knee extensor and flexor muscles in young children football players
Materials and methods: Thirty two male (9 and 14 years old) were participated in this study. Participants were randomized in the intervention group (16 Players) and control group (16 playes) in this semi-experimental study. The intervention-group subjects participated in 10 weeks “FIFA 11+ kids” twice a week for 10 weeks. Control group players followed a usual warm-up. Isokinetic measurements were performed on the hamstrings and quadriceps muscles on dominant limb at concentric 60 °/s before and after the intervention. Analysis of covariance was used in the 0/05 significant level.
Results: The result of this study showed that the training programme significantly improved concentric peak torque of quadriceps and Hamstring (p< 0.05). But For H/Q ratio no significant changes were found between groups.
Conclusion: FIFA 11+ kids programme appears to be effective for soccer training and conditioning by improving muscle strength around the knee joint and preventing knee injuries.
